Comment | This family consists of the bacterial (and chloroplast) DNA-directed RNA polymerase alpha subunit, encoded by the rpoA gene. The RNA polymerase catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. The amino terminal domain is involved in dimerizing and assembling the other RNA polymerase subunits into a transcriptionally active enzyme. The carboxy-terminal domain contains determinants for interaction with DNA and with transcriptional activator proteins. |
