CommentThis extremely rare protein family, a branch of the 2-oxoglutarate dependent oxygenase family related to proline 3-hydroxylase, appears only in natural product biosynthetic clusters that include nonribosomal peptide synthases. One members is PlyP from the polyoxypeptin A cluster, suggested to hydroxylate 3-methylproline. Another, GetF from the GE81112 biosynthetic gene cluster, is a proposed to hydroxylate pipecolic acid.
