CommentAll members of the seed alignment for this model are asparate-alanine anti-transporters (AspT) encoded next to the gene for aspartate 4-decarboxylase (AspD), which converts asparate to alanine, releasing CO2. The exchange of Asp for Ala is electrogenic, so the AspD/AspT system confers a proton-motive force. This transporter contains two copies of the AspT/YidE/YbjL antiporter duplication domain (TIGR01625).
