CommentRestriction alleviation proteins provide a countermeasure to host cell restriction enzyme defense against foreign DNA such as phage or plasmids. This family consists of homologs to the phage antirestriction protein Lar, and most members belong to phage genomes or prophage regions of bacterial genomes.
