CommentMembers of this protein oxidize L-lactate to pyruvate, reducing molecular oxygen to hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme is known in Aerococcus viridans, Streptococcus iniae, and some strains of Streptococcus pyogenes where it appears to contribute to virulence.
